Wireless Networking in the Developing World

Our pal Rob Flickenger, in collaboration with peers accross the globe, has helped to produce an important new book entitled "Wireless Networking in the Developing World." What's really great is that the book has been released under the Creative Commons license. Here's an excerpt from the press release. You can find out more and download the book at http://wndw.net/ .

For Immediate Release
London, England-- Imagine trying to piece together a wireless network with no manuals, sporadic and slow access to the Internet, inadequate tools, a shortage of supplies, and in the most inclement weather. The authors of a recently published book, "Wireless Networking in the Developing World" don't need to imagine. They have been doing so for years.

Penguin Day Chicago 2005 is less than one week away!

[textile]We have a few spaces left, so register now at "http://chicago.penguinday.org":http://chicago.penguinday.org.

What is Penguin Day Chicago?

Penguin Day Chicago will bring together nonprofit tech staff, eRiders, consultants, and open source software (OSS) developers for a day of learning and conversation. We'll demystify open source for nonprofits, frankly address the challenges of developing open source tools for non profits and celebrate strengths and successes of open source in the nonprofit sector.

Web Site Plans

To Do:

The site was never fully moved from Drupal to a true Civicspace installation, because CS was generating errors (which are logged in the CivicspaceLabs issue tracker). Instead, we are using the Drupal core modules with a number of Civicspace modules added in.

Right now new user registrations are not pushed into the contact module, which will eventually be an issue. This will take some tweaking at our end if it is going to happen reliably.

...

These are my notes from an oldish discussion on the Website Committee

* Current Projects
* Groupware mechanism for the Steering Committee (private)
* Calendar
* Manage Cafe Volunteers and compile resources bout the cafe
* knowledge base/ how to get support
* example database -- should be more thorough
* articles and press room -- suggested reading
